Assalamu’alaikum
Good.....
It is a great privilege for me to be with you today and
to address you on this speech competition. In this sunny day, allow me to
deliver a speech entitled “the importance of educating our generation at this
globalization era by Heart- Habibie”
Ladies and gentlemen,
Education is essentially an effort to
make human civilized. Education is not just schooling, or privatizing person as
the educated one, but forming civilized one. Well, the last word looks so
simple to say, but it’s hard to apply or find in the middle of generations in
this country. To make our generations civilized, our government still can’t do a lot of things. Character building
applied in educational curriculum is still useless. Even at the present time,
the impact of the multidimensional crisis has shown early signs of the
emergence of a crisis of confidence (self-confidence) and self-respect
(self-esteem) as a nation character. These really afflicts the generations of our country
at this global era . As the evidence, Just see the news published by many mass
media. Many of the children look pious and virtuous in the house,
but naughty at
school, involved in
the brawl, the use of illegal
drugs, and other forms of crime,
such as robbery and so on city buses.
These are the kids who not only do not have the virtues
(righteousness) and the inner beauty in the character,
but instead having
split personalities (split personality). In this case, schools become as
helpless against this reality. And the school has
always been the black sheep of
the falling character and national character. In fact, the school itself facing
severe problems regarding curriculum overload, inadequate
facilities, welfare of teachers and education
personnel is low. The school faces many hurdles as losing its relevance
to the formation of character.
School, as a consequence, more is just a place
for the transfer of knowledge rather than character building, a place of teaching rather
than education. Traced further, such character crises are actually associated
with the absence
of a lot of harmony in the family .Many families disoriented not only
because of the economic crisis, but also because of
the invasion of the globalization
of values and lifestyles that are not always
compatible with the
values and norms of religion, socio-cultural
and local Indonesian
national. For example,
hedonistic and materialistic
lifestyle as many
as shows in telenovelas and soap operas aired
on various TV
channels Indonesia, only accelerate disorientation
and dislocation of families and households.
Consequently, we are not surprised if
a lot of kids who come out of the family
and household have
almost no character and character. Regarding to
the complicated problems in this globalization era, I think educating by heart
offered by Prof. Dr. B.J. Habibie is
really needed to implement. According to him, education systems should involve
2 processes: The first is Civilizing process. In this process, the baby should be attached to his
mother / family. Where
there is an element in the civilizing religion and culture. Good education
requires good understanding of religion and culture in a good neighborhood because good moral and
ethical benchmarks are a part of religion donations. The second is knowledge process
that must be experienced personally by infants. Why ladies and gentlemen? In
education, child must have inherent desire, and to get the knowledge, parents
must give a culture of free thinking to the
child. Never frighten or even barrier the child to do or not to do something
for the knowledge process. Let him evaluate what he does by himself. After
thinking, he will get the result, and he will improve his ability or quality
through his fault. Besides, the child must be educated to be calm when he is criticized. He should be told that no need to get angry, he had better take the
positive things from the critique while he is criticized. When a child is accustomed with such good systems, I think the crises of characters would not
happen to our generations. They will be able to be qualified ones in this
modern era. Qualified here means “qualified in moral, mental and the way of
thinking. In this case, such educational systems will not be successful
without ‘mother’s role. Mother must really care of her child’s need and progress.
The empowerment of a mother can bring about a change in a family and even the
society as a whole. Regarding this, according to Habibie, a mother doesn’t need
to work abroad . When a mother works abroad, it will lead to bad result because
when a child is far from his mom, he will lose a support, care or control. Without Mom, what's a boy. Perhaps we forget,
there is a prayer every mother in our success.
Ladies and gentlemen,
To close my speech, let me take some
points of my speech
Seeing the alarming condition of the
generations of our country, we need to implement educational systems offered by
B.J Habibie by applying civilizing process with cultural and regional
application and knowledge process with freedom in thinking, evaluating, and
being criticized.
