CORRUPTION CULTURE

Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
The honourable judges
The distiguished  audiences
Dear my friends who participate in this speech contest

Ladies and Gentlemen
It’s a great pleasure for me to stand here for joining this speech contest. In this good occasion, I’d like to deliver a speech with a subject  “Why should corruption live in our country?”

Ladies and gentlemen,
I think we all know what corruption is. Commonly, Corruption is meant by an action of abusing  a chance or trust for personal gain or other illegal or immoral benefit. As we know, Corruption is not only forbidden by law but also each religion available in our country, Indonesia that teaches us bad impacts of doing negative things, like getting heavy punishment in the hereafter. There will be heaven and hell waiting us to account for what we have done in this world.  It is obvious that corruption belongs to the sinful action that should be banned because it really harms the others. It can be regarded from various kinds of field, like economy, moral, social one and so on.
Ladies and gentlemen, many people really know that. But why is our country still full of corruptions? The most horrible thing is that Indonesia has got a title “corruption country?” Why do our country get such a bad title? Why?”

Ladies and gentlemen
When we are watching TV, reading newspaper or listening to radio, Corruption is mainly discussed as the hottest news. This case are found everywhere, either in countrysides or big cities. The corruptors can be whoever having a chance to do it. It can occur at all levels of society, from local and national governments, civil society, judiciary functions, large and small businesses, military and other services and so on.
Based on the historical records, Corruption has been done since Indonesia got its independence especially started from sociopolitical order in 1965.
Let’s take some examples:
  1. Various corruptions were done by Cendana family started from 1965 up to 1998. One of them is about Suharto’s case allegedly involved in corruption of using country finance from 7 foundations that he led.
  1. Bank Century Bailot happened in 2009. It’s mentioned that the unaccounted fund, as much as 500 billions rupiahs were allegedly transferred to a politician.
  2. Gayus Tambunan’s case happened in March 2010. He corrupted country tax reaching more than 5 hundreds billion rupiahs.    And there are still many corruptions happening in this country

Ladies and gentlemen,
Actually, our country has carried out alot of things to eradicate corruption. Legally, war against corruption has been declared when law No. 28/1999 on the establishment of a state free from corruption, collusion and nepotism was ratified.  It was expected that the law will combat the number of corruptions spreading in our country . This was then continued by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s and Jusuf Kalla’s era, to fight against corruption they have formed KPK, the comission of Corruption eradication.
It seems, however, that all of these laws will not suffice to speed up the elimination of corruption. Indonesia is still famous as the most corrupt state in Asia
Ladies and gentlemen,
Eradicating such a title is not as easy as ABC.  Here, the government and we all must cooperate each other. For the government, as our representatives,  must handle the corruption cases properly and seriously, as experience has shown that they are not successfull yet. Besides, government officials involved in corruption cases must be discharged from their positions. Third, when a court of law finds a government official guilty in corruption case, he or she must be put in prison immediately after the verdict is passed by the district court.
As the young generation what can we do to confront this situation. Nothing??? Or just giving up to accept the bitter reality mushrooming  in our beloved country?
Of course, we can do something at least for preventing ourselves not to be a corruptor. The young generations, like us, can change the condition of our country by applying one key, that’s  honesty in our life started from the little things since we were child.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The real thing we can do especially for students, we must avoid cheating during a test. Analyzing farther, it’s actually the embrio of corruption because in cheating, dishonesty is found, hard working culture is lost, wrong way to get the easy and fast target is passed. If this habit is allowed to enter our life, the most probable thing happening is that we will form ourselves to be dishonest forever until getting adult continued or imitated by our generation. For example, we do bribery to get a job or register our child in a favourite shool without our own and our child’s effort.
Ladies and gentlemen
Before closing this speech let me conclude my speech
1.       Corruption is very dangerous for our county’s life because it will fail various kinds of field or programs targetted by our country, so
2.       To eradicate the corruption, government and we all must cooperate each other by having the firm laws to do and individual awareness of being honest in our life.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Never Stop Fighting Against Corruption
That’s all my speech
Thanks for your attention
Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
